Order

I am realizing that I like order, but my difficulty completing things and making time work for me makes my house a bit chaotic.  I like doing 'big cleans' and seeing 'big results' much more than day-to-day cleaning.  I also am really busy, and cleaning just doesn't always happen.

I have been procrastinating on cleaning up the horizontal piles for the arrival of THE BOOKCASES that have been in storage and my friend's shipping container for ages.  They are here and I am LOVING them (as well as the comfiest rocking chair ever).  


also if any one knows how to properly treat borer, I am pretty sure I have a bunch living in my drawers:(  

The world through the eyes of children...

... I love being around kids becuase they do a wonderful job of helping me see the world differently.

Yesteray I saw a big plastic  tarp... and thought slip n slide vaguely. But when I drove back a few hours later I saw a line of kids and a firetruck. I raced over to pick up my friend and her 5 year old twins.

Today I went to the beach

 with the my friends and their great kids




and played on the beach with them and then rolled around on the sand playing around with the focus feature on my friend's camera.  It was lovely and simple and I needed desparately to focus on sometime simple and lovely and uncomplicated this weekend.  







If I won the lottery right now I'd go buy myself a nice digital camera with a good zoom/focus!

This is history...

I've been lucky to see a few moments of great history. The kind that makes you smile through tears... the best kind, with no blood or gore, just people moving forward in profound ways.

One was watching same-sex couples line up at Cambridge City hall, in the midst of a huge community street celebration, to receive their marriage certificates.

This week it is this....

Swinging good company

Another lovely bonus of the weekend is getting to spend so much time with the wonderful people in the swing dancing scene here.  The guys are great, but the ladies - well are fabulous!

General Art Deco fun

This year we were much better prepared for what to expect... and luckily it all was still fun and interesting... from antique shopping (where I bought my not so antique hat) to parades, planes and steam machines, and lots of great people watching.

The costume competion is still long and hot... but worth the wait when you see your brave friends strut their stuff on stage in their bathing belles costumes



I swear this is the same kid that I saw last year dancing!  except it doesn't look like he aged at all.






 

Art deco - dancing

Well, dancing is  the main reason many of us make are way all the way to Napier.  And there was lots of wonderful dancing this weekend. I found that now that I know more people in the swing scene here I felt much more comfortable asking for dances and felt okay with how I was dancing in general -- which is good since I was more or less dancing or watching dancing from 7 pm 'till 4 am on Saturday!

So after seeing lovely outfits like this dream one all weekend, I was very happy that this year I had invested ina few outfits for myself.  




Friday night's was mostly seen by those at the A & E

Saturday was a lovely red peacock number


Saturday night I started in this frock, but had to keep tying knots in the bottom to keep my heel from catching the hem.

When red wine spilled down my back, I changed into this for blues dancing

Sunday was the picnic day... although I slipped in to my togs for a bit.. and I wore pink all day long.

Friday night - A & E

A & E here is does not refer to arts and entertainment.. its accident and emergency, which we got to experience first hand when Traveler leaped over a 1 metre wall, excuting an uncharacteristically poor Traveler landing.

Traveler was able to get print outs of the xrays so we can show friends and family what the inside of his toe looked like...


 for now all we can share is what the outside looked like....
