The end of your twenties as you know it...

I spent the last weekend of my 20s at a rowing regata. It was a really great weekend, although there is something about driving around a flock of teenage girls 3-4 hours each way to make you feel a bit old.It started with waiting to get everyone assembled and ready to go.

I had the distinction of being the only one on my team with a full, unrestricted drivers license.

I noticed that there was a distinctive pattern to the road trip. Phase 1 = giggle and gossip, when you passionately want to say something yell "oye, I'm talking!" Phase 2 = tunes and techno dancing (much better if you can use car speakers instead of portable ones) Phase 3 = fall into silence as the driver plods along into the night.

I overheard a few things that make me think:

  • "'94" "95" "94" as the girls stated their birthyear, my inner dialogue crikey, the babies of the teen mothers I went to school are now THIS big and Dang, I am twice as old as my entire team!
  • "shannon" which happens frequently with 2 other Shannon's in the club. After about the 15th time, I stopped responded. The one time I didn't respond that they were actually talking to me lead to overhearing this overlapping sequence "Shit I think she is asleep" "what do we do?" "well at least it is a straigth stretch of road..." Did they really think someone could sleep and stay in their lane for 15 minutes!?!
It was a great event. Saturday was dedicated to our races:

Then on Sunday we packed up and raced off to watch the Drysdale race:

I was exhausted by the time I returned at 5. Traveler came and picked me up and calmly waited while I cleaned the bus and returned it to the rental depot.
